Program Notes: "In spite of having remarkable proximity to spectral music regarding its general character and sonic components, Naufragii, composed for Hezarfen Ensemble, is constructed completely in an unconditioned manner without any spectral analysis and without adhering to a particular system. Basically; Naufragii, composed of the chords and textures deriving from the harmonic series and their variations that occasionally replace each other in progress, presents a monolithic flow with variable auditory structures."

Mithatcan Öcal's "Belt of Sympathies" (2016) Mini Opera Without Words for 15 musicians, performed by the WDR Symphony Orchestra conducted by Emilio Pomàrico. Öcal, composer and co-founder of the Istanbul Composers Collective, focuses on the question of how folk music is received in Turkey. The WDR Symphony Orchestra plays the mini opera without words in a German premiere. Recorded live on 30.10.2020 in the Kölner Philharmonie as part of the series "Musik der Zeit" by WDR 3.

Boratav Project is a collaboration that was formed by two composer-pianists, Emre Dundar and Mehmet Ali Uzunselvi, in 2007, for the purpose of showcasing improvisation performances together, individually, or with participation of different artists within an expandable framework, and creating electro-acoustic structures using materials mostly obtained from the recordings of these performances.

Boratav Project takes its name from the famous folk literature researcher, Pertev Naili Boratav. Boratav, who has compiled more than two thousand tales and established the place of ‘story-telling/making up’ in the narrative tradition with his in depth analyses, is a very valuable name for Turkish cultural history. The name of the project is both a reverent dedication, and reference to the relationship between the researcher’s special interest in the act of improvisation in narrative traditions and the new areas pointed out by Dundar and Uzunselvi.
